As we all know, the financial burden of supporting a family is heavy for two parents. Now let’s put all of that responsibility onto one. Child care cost in Illinois average around $9,000 a year, which is 48 percent of a single mom’s income! Being a single mom and paying for rent, utilities, groceries, car payment, car insurance, gas, phone bill, school expenses, and child care doesn’t leave much room for saving, if any at all.
When things finally start to look up and a single parent is able to put money back for savings, an unexpected event may happen, and the unfortunate cycle of living paycheck to paycheck starts again.
The holiday season can be especially hard. No parent should have to choose between paying their bills and giving their child a Christmas. That’s why YWCA McLean County, in honor of #GivingTuesday, is striving to give single moms who use our child care a break so they don’t have to make that decision.
Our goal is $4,000 and every donation we receive is appreciated. All of the funds from #GivingTuesday will go directly to a family’s child care balance. Not only are these women hardworking mothers, but they’re also hardworking women within the community. They work in non-profit, education, retail, and more, but one thing they all have in common: giving and putting others before themselves. Now, it’s time they get put first.
Thank you for helping them this #GivingTuesday! To donate click here.
