A $6,300.00 grant was awarded by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois to YWCA McLean County to fund the purchase of food, t-shirts, journals and backpacks for Peace Camp participants! Kids’ Peace Camp is a program offered to children, grades 2-5 designed to educate participants on conflict resolution before conflict escalates to verbal, physical, mental or sexual violence. Topics included in the Peace Camp curriculum are: conflict resolution, impulse control, appreciating the differences of others, and effective communication strategies. Peace Camp is unduplicated in the McLean County community and is the only program that directly addresses the need for verbal, physical, mental or sexual violence prevention for children in McLean County.
The Ronald McDonalds House Charities of Central Illinois provides funds to not-for-profit organizations that directly help children reach their fullest potential in civic and social services, education and the arts and health and medical research.
Funding came directly from the RMHC in Springfield to allow YWCA of McLean County to continue with Kids’ Peace Camp.
